Two arrested for theft at SEZ; items confiscated

Mangaluru: The main accused in a theft that occurred at the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) have been arrested in an operation conducted by Bajpe police and also the stolen items have been recovered. The theft in question has occurred on Aug 19th and reported to the police on Aug 21 according to which 601 cable glands worth Rs 2,11,436 were stolen.
The equipment relating to electric contract were kept inside a temporary shed by Evio Pvt Ltd, which undertakes electric jobs on contract basis and has been functioning in Mangalore Special Economic Zone. However, on the night of Aug 20, 2019, thieves had broken open the lock of the shed and reportedly stolen 601 cable glands.
A case was registered by the cops and Vijay (35), son Laxman Poojary from Shantigudde, Bajpe here, and Puneet (28), son of Neelayya Belchada, resident of Shantigudde, Bajpe, were taken into custody from Melkar based on reliable information. During interrogation, the accused spilled the 278 cable glands worth Rs 80,000 were recovered and also a pickup truck used for theft bearing registration No. KA 19 A 6463 was also seized.
Meanwhile, another accused identified as Shamir from Shantigudde, had been arrested on August 25 this year, and 30 cable glands and a pickup truck were seized from his possession.
Bajpe police inspector K R Nayak, police sub-inspectors Sathsih M P and Kamala, assistant sub-inspector Rama Poojary and others conducted the probe which lasted for about a month.
