Kasaragod: Cochin CBI Special Court convicted two accused in connection with the murder of Youth Congress worker Balakrishna (25) on May 17th.

The convicted have been identified as Mohammed Iqbal, a resident of Chettanjal and Mohammed Hanif of Thalangere. The court acquitted three other accused of all charges in the case, namely Abdul Gafoor, A M Mohammed, and Aboobakar.

On September 18, 2001, a group of men kidnapped Balakrishna in a car and brutally murdered him near Chandragiri River in Kasargod.

Since the Kasargod Police failed to apprehend the culprits, Balakrishna’s family had appealed to the Kerala High Court for a high level probe into the case. The Kerala government later handed over the case to CBI.
