Two cops in dock over accepting bribe

Belthangady: Twp police personnel attached to Punjalakatte police station have been suspended on charges of accepting a bribe from a man, recently arrested for transporting explosive materials illegally. 

The suspended policemen are Laxman, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and Ibrahim, head constable of Punjalakatte police station.

On September 24, the District Crime Intelligence Bureau (DCIB) police had arrested Basavanagudi resident Chinnaswamy and seized from his possession lakhs worth of explosive materials while he was ferrying them in his two-wheeler.

During the questioning, Chinnaswamy revealed that Laxman and Ibrahim had confiscated the cache of explosives earlier and had coerced him to pay a bribe of Rs 25,000 to them. However, they later informed the matter to the DCIB police.

An inquiry had been initiated into the allegations and on the basis of the report submitted by ASP Sonawane Rishikesh Bhagawan, SP Dr Ravikanthe Gowda issued the suspension order for the ASI and the head constable.
