Two drown in Netravati river; one rescued

Bantwal: Two persons including a teenager drowned in the Netravati river at Barimar near Mani here on Saturday May 25.
The deceased have been identified as Ajit Kumar (40) and Manish (14), residents of Kumble, Kerala. Meanwhile, the locals were able to rescue another person identified as Yakshith from drowning.
Ajit Kumar had come to Barimar accompanied with seven child artistes of Nattupolima Kala Sangha to attend the wedding of relative Santhosh Kumar, son of Sanjeev Bogi.
The incident
The seven children went to Netravati river and were playing near the tank on Saturday evening. Manish and Yakshith got washed away while swimming in the water. Ajit saw the duo struggling in the water and rushed to their rescue only to fall prey to the strong current.
Witnessing the debacle, the locals rushed to the spot and with much difficulty were able to rescue Yakshith. The other two could not be saved.
Panemangalore hobli revenue inspector Rama Katipalla, village accountant Janardhan, Bantwal rural inspector Prasanna, other police personnel and others have visited the spot. A case is registered in this regard at Bantwal rural police station.
