Two men arrested for possessing deer meat

Madikeri: Two individuals were arrested by the Excise Department authorities for possessing deer meat at Tholpatti Gate, Kutta Gadi here on July 11.

The accused have been identified as Vijesh and Anish, residents of Mahe. The authorities seized 3.3 kg deer meat from the accused.

Following up on a tip-off that the deer meat is being transported, the Excise Department authorities launched an operation to nab the offenders. It is assembled that the duo killed the deer in the forest and transported the meat by bike to stay away from suspicion.

The duo were arrested and later given over to the forest department officials who booked the duo under India’s Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 that bans the killing of all wild animals.
