Two of family killed, 3 injured as car falls 35-ft into trench

Kasargod: Two persons of a family were killed while three other members sustained grievous injuries after the Omni van in which they were travelling fell into a 35-feet trench at Onibagilu, near Perla-Puthige road here on Thursday, May 2 afternoon.

Beefathimma(58) and her son Mohammed Sharif(38) are the deceased persons.

The incident occurred at 1.30 pm after the driver lost control of the van causing it to topple and fall into a roadside trench here. Locals rushed to the spot and helped remove the victims from the car but Beefathimma and Sharif had passed away. Sharif’s wife Khairunnisa(28), and children – Shamna(10) and Shahar Banu(6) sustained injuries and have been shifted to a hospital in Mangaluru.

It is gathered that the family was travelling to Mugu to attend a function there.

The dead bodies are kept in Kasargod general hospital mortuary and would be handed over to the family after postmortem.

Badiadka police have registered a case.
