Two policemen arrested on graft charges

Phagwara: Two policemen have been arrested by vigilance officials for allegedly accepting bribe, the police said today.
Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Arjun Singh, in-charge Panchhat village police post, and Head constable Shangara Singh have been placed under immediate suspension, police said. Giving details, police said that a man hailing from Bhagana village had some dispute with his wife and approached the police.
The man alleged that the policemen demanded Rs 10,000 bribe for helping him in the case, they said. In the meantime, the complainant informed Vigilance Department about it and a trap was laid, they said. The complainant Sarabjit Singh Cheema yesterday gave the bribe amount to ASI Arjun Singh who handed it over to Head constable Shangara Singh, they said.
Vigilance sleuths headed by Vigilance department Inspector Dalbir Singh caught the two accused allegedly accepting bribe and arrested them, police said. The arrests were made under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Phagwara Sub-division Superintendent of Police Parminder Singh Bhandal said both the policemen have been placed under suspension.
