Adding many new subjects, two new-age contemporary postgraduate programmes have been launched by the Gandhian Centre for Philosophical Arts and Sciences, MAHE. Along with MA in Ecosophical Aesthetics, which was launched last year, yet another innovative programme – MA in Art and Peace Studies has been launched from this academic year.

While different arts and philosophy are a common thread in both the PG programmes, Ecosophical Aesthetics primarily deals with contemporary ecological crises and philosophical appreciation of art forms, while the Art and Peace Studies deals with social and international crises and how art could be used as a medium for peace.

The courses explore the ‘root’ of different contemporary crises and the way out/way forward/way within. With this basis, both programmes prepare students for a life of writing – journalism, media, and communication

In the new curriculum of Ecosophical Aesthetics new subjects such as Translation Studies and Yakshagana Studies have been introduced. Along with certain common subjects, Peace Studies includes subjects such as Society and Polity, Development Studies, Gender Studies and Gandhian Studies. While Ecosophical Aesthetics focusses more on Humanities, the other programme – Peace Studies focusses more on Social Sciences

Anyone with graduation or equivalent degree can take up these programmes. The professional possibilities include Journalism, Media, and Communication, Socio-cultural, Political and Environmental sector, Academics and Research, Policy Research organisations, International Relations agencies, Publishing etc.

The Gandhian Centre for Philosophical Arts and Sciences (GCPAS), MAHE engages in interdisciplinary teaching and research with a view to developing alternative knowledge systems to deal with contemporary crises. The Centre engages in the intersectionality of Aesthetics, Philosophy, Ecology, Journalism, Gandhian and Peace Studies, Development Studies, Gender Studies. It is a constituent department of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), a deemed university recognized as the Institution of Eminence by the Ministry of Human Resources, Government of India.
