Two women pilgrims from Udupi district, who passed away due to illness during their Umrah pilgrimage, were laid to rest in Mecca.

The women, Mariamma (66) and her friend Khatijamma (68), were part of a group, consisting of 23 women and 11 men, who had departed from Mangaluru through a travel agency. The group successfully completed the Umrah pilgrimage before the tragedy occurred.

Mariamma suffered a heart attack and breathed her last on March 9, while the group was preparing to travel to Madina. Khatijamma also passed away due to ill health on March 11.

The women were reportedly relatives.
