Mangaluru: Days after a Udayavani report highlighted that the army selection training schools in the coastal district was on the verge of closure owing to lack of release of government funds, the Backward Classes Welfare Department has invited applications from the youth for initiating the 3rd batch.

Training academies were established in the 3 coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada, with special grants from the Backward Classes Department inorder to train youth from backward classes in hopes of increasing enrolment and selection of youth from the coast to the Indian defense forces.

Accordingly, the first batch received training from November 2022 to February 2023, and the second batch from March to June this year. However with lack of adequate grants, the staff at the training school, including retired army officer have not received their wages since April and it was reported that there was no funds available to begin a new training batch.

However, it is now gathered that the Backward Classes Welfare Department is hopeful of the Finance Department releasing funds for the venture and has thus invited applications from the youth for the 3rd training batch.

Candidates who have passed SSLC with minimum 33 marks in each subject and with a maximum family income of Rs 2.5 lakh for Category 1 and Rs 1 lakh family income for Category-2(A), 3(A) and 3(B) are eligible to apply. The SSLC passing certificate will be considered as proof of date of birth and age for the candidates. Physical characteristics i.e Height 166 cm, Minimum Weight 50 Kg and Chest Circumference 77 cm is a must for eligible candidates.

Candidates who have selected Dakshina Kannada district will be trained in Dakshina Kannada district only.

The application can be submitted personally or by registered post to the office of the District Backward Classes Welfare Department Officer, Anegundi Road, Bejai Kapikad, Mangaluru Taluk, Dakshina Kannada District-575004 between 10 am to 5.30 pm on September 15.
