Udupi: People from the coastal belt are dreamers. They work tirelessly to make their dreams come true, opined Dr. Sandhya S Pai, the Managing editor of ‘Taranga’ weekly magazine on Monday.

Dr. Sandhya S Pai was delivering a speech during the function held at Ravindra Mantapa to commemorate the stalwarts of journalism who trace their roots to Manipal as part of the ‘Suvarnottara Sambhrama’ organized by Udayavani in collaboration with MGM College Udupi.

It is because they were dreamers that the sectors such as banking, education, medicine, or journalism have flourished in the region, she said.

Udayavani began 52 years ago, Tushara first began publishing 50 years ago, and Taranga and Tunturu have completed 40 years. About 75 years ago, six stalwarts of journalism began publishing a newspaper. Recognizing the contributions of these stalwarts, hopefully, encourages the younger generation, she added.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Who graced the event as the chief guest was felicitated by MGM College Trustee President T. Satish Pai, Pro-Chancellor of Manipal University Dr. H.S. Ballal, and MGM College Principal Prof Laxminarayana Karanth.

Managing Director and CEO of Manipal Media Network Ltd Mr. Vinor Kumar submitted a short book to Chief Minister Bommai, that highlights the realities of the coastal industrial areas. He hoped that the book would serve as a reference for initiating actions for the development of the region.

Earlier, during the day, a symposium was held about the life and works of 6 stalwarts of journalism, including S U Paniyadi, Padigaru Venkataramana Acharya, Kamal Hyder, Bannanje Ramacharya, Bykadi Krishnaiah, and M V Hegde, by distinguished personalities. The families of the 6 stalwarts were also felicitated on this occasion.
