Udupi: 25-yo girl under dist admin’s foster care ties the knot with their blessings

A 25-year-old girl, who was in foster care at Nittur’s Mahila Nilaya, tied the knot with a 29-year-old boy with the blessings of the Udupi district administration and the Women and Child Welfare Department.

The groom, Mallesha DL a farmer from Davangere’s Savalanga village, had expressed the desire to marry the girl.

Based on this, the district administration directed the concerned officers to inquire about the boy’s background (boy’s conduct and family whereabouts) and after the verification process, Udupi Deputy Commissioner Kurma Rao, who is also the chairperson of the State Mahila Nilaya core committee granted permission for the marriage.

The director of the State Women and Child Welfare Department too granted permission.

The wedding was held as per the Hindu traditions on Thursday and marriage registration was done on Friday, October 28.

MLA Raghupathi Bhat, Municipal Council President Sumitra R. Naik, DC Kurma Rao, former member of National Commission for Women Shyamala Kunder, Member Secretary of District Legal Services Authority Sharmila S., Deputy Director of Women and Child Development Department Veena Vivekananda, Superintendent of State Women’s Hostel Lilavati and family members of the groom’s side attended the marriage.

In relation to the arrangement for the wedding event, the State Women and Child Welfare Department sanctioned Rs. 5000 towards the event management, Jyeshta Developers donated Mangalsutra and saree, President of the City Municipal Corporation Sumitra Nayak will be providing cloth material, food was arranged from Ambalpadi Temple.
