Udupi: Accused drinks pesticide before cops arrest him, falls sick in jeep

Udupi: A 44-year-old man, an accused in a 2017 case drank pesticide when the police arrived at his workplace to arrest him with a court warrant.

The accused Karunakara Shetty, a Mucchoor resident fell sick while he was being escorted by the police in their jeep after being taken into custody. He was taken to Mulky community health centre for preliminary treatment and later shifted to a hospital in Mangaluru for advanced treatment.

Police had got a tip-off about Shetty being employed at a bar in Shivalli. On August 24 afternoon, they arrived at the bar and enquired about Shetty with a co-worker.

Shetty asked the police to allow him a change of clothes and went to his room where he drank pesticide. He later fell sick in the police jeep.

Udupi city police registered a case in this regard.
