Udupi: Auto-rickshaw rides in Udupi will be costlier from October 1. The District Transport Authority has issued an order revising the fares for auto-rickshaws plying in the district.

Accordingly, the minimum fare has been fixed at Rs 40 for journeys up to 1.5 km, after which it will cost Rs 20 for every kilometer of the ride.

The order said that recalibration and sealing of the meters must be done within 31 days.

All the autorickshaw drivers/owners of the district must compulsorily install the flag meters permitted by law for their rickshaws and get them from the legal metrology department according to the above rate, it said.

RTO in-charge officer Ravi Shankar P, in a press statement, said that appropriate legal action will be taken against anyone erring to abide by the rules.
