Udupi: Bhagavad Gita in Yakshagana – Dr. Prabhakar Joshi

Udupi: As part of the Bruhat Geetotsava organised by Paryaya Sri Puthige Math at Rajangana, veteran Yakshagana scholar Dr. M. Prabhakar Joshi delivered a keynote speech on Saturday, exploring the possibilities of integrating the Bhagavad Gita into Yakshagana. He remembered the contributions of three eminent personalities, including Malpe Ramdas Samaga, who worked on bringing the essence of the Gita into Yakshagana.
Lauding the vision of Paryaya Puthige Math seer Sri Sugunendra Theertha, Dr. Joshi mentioned Paryaya’s remarkable initiative to display Gita’s universal form using a dedicated artistic platform earlier. He highlighted the unparalleled contributions of dramatist and writer Dr. Udyavara Madhavacharya in materializing this concept.
Dr. Joshi also spoke about the tradition of Yakshagana performances in Udupi Maths since ancient times and praised the continuous efforts of seers to revive and promote the art.
Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji and junior pontiff Sri Sushreendra Theertha felicitated Dr. Prabhakar Joshi. Additionally, Kolkata-based entrepreneur Kalwani couple was honoured with the Sri Krishna Geetanugraha award for their contributions.
Geetamritasara Book Release
As part of the grand Geetotsava, the Geetamritasara book, authored by Sri Sujnanendra Theertha, will be released on December 17 at 5:30 PM at Rajangana. A session on the life and works of Sri Sujnanendra Theertha will be presented by V. Sudheendra Acharya Hejamadi, while Om Prakash Bhat will introduce the book.
