Chaos erupted at the panchayat meeting in Thenkanidiyoor Gram Panchayat as Congress and BJP members clashed with each other over handling waste management.
Villagers protested against Panchayat President Shobha Naik, alleging that the water in the well is being contaminated due to the dumping of approximately 50 loads of garbage. They demanded the immediate removal of the waste.
In this background, BJP members opposed the proceedings of the general body meeting of the Panchayat.
The BJP members objected to holding the meeting without a quorum, pointing out that three members were absent. They disrupted the meeting by entering the well area and expressing their opposition. Congress members intervened and attempted to remove the BJP members from the meeting.
This led to a verbal altercation that escalated into a physical clash in front of the Executive Officer and police. During the scuffle, a woman member of the Panchayat sustained injuries.
The tense situation persisted for about half an hour before the BJP members left the meeting and decided to file a complaint against the Congress members at the police station.
