Udupi: Body of drowned woman traced a day after tragedy

Udupi: The body of a young woman who had reportedly drowned in Malpe beach on August 1, Sunday was retrieved on August 2, Monday. The body was found floating near the sea walk.

The victim has been identified as Dechamma. Her body was shifted to a mortuary in Manipal.

On Sunday, Dechamma, two other women and a young man from Kodagu had arrived early in the morning at Malpe beach. They reportedly continued to play in the seawater even after being warned by locals.

Minutes later all four of them were struck by a strong wave. Dechamma went missing while the three others were rescued by locals.

A case has been registered at Malpe Police station.
