Udupi: Celebrated saxophonist Sunder Sherigar no more

Udupi: Celebrated saxophonist Sunder Sherigar, a native of Alevur, breathed his last on Wednesday morning at the age of 76.
Sherigar had mentored several students to play the saxophone in Udupi, Mangaluru region and many of them have been performing at national and international levels. His granddaughter Pooja Devadiga was one among the many students mentored by Sherigar and has emerged as a famous saxophonist in Mumbai.
Sherigar is survived by a son and three daughters. His contributions to the field of music have earned him widespread recognition. He was bestowed with an honorary doctorate degree from the International Virtual Peace University, along with accolades from various organizations.
He had been honored with the prestigious Zilla Rajyotsava award in view of his achievements. Apart from Karnataka, Sherigar has also given performances across Kerala, Hyderabad, Tamil Nadu, Goa, Mumbai, and other parts of the country. Additionally, he also performed during the numerous temple festivals in the Udupi district.
