Udupi: The Health Department is making all preparations for the success of the upcoming Covid-19 vaccination drive for children in November.

Reportedly, children, whose adult family members are vaccinated against Covid-19, will be vaccinated to achieve maximum efficiency. This is being done as the health department calculates that the infection can spread from adults to others.

Children aged betwen 12 and 18 are likely to get ZyCov-D vaccine. The chances of administering Covaxin jabs for children are low as the union government has yet to give permission for its emergency use in children.

Child vaccine will receive the shots using a special needle-free applicator (gun). The mechanism reduces pain as it does not use needles. It is learnt that the experts have recommended three doses of ZyCov-D for children.

Vaccination Performance:

Udupi district’s vaccination target has been revised to 9.99 lakh from the earlier goal of 9 lakhs.  So far, the first dose has been received by 91.36 percent of the target population and about 47 percent have received the second dose.

As per the revised vaccination targets, the district ranks third in the state.

In the past 15 days, the number of people who took the 2nd dose was higher than those who took the first dose. The special vaccination drive organized in the district in 3 days of Navratri has achieved results beyond the targets set.
