Udupi: The accused in the Pitti Nagesh murder case were acquitted by the Udupi district sessions court on Tuesday, September 6.
On the night of September 11, 2014, Pitti Nagesh alias Nagesh Devadiga (41) of Kukkikatte was attacked and killed near Halima Sabju Auditorium in Udyavara.
Police had arrested 5 persons – identified as Ivan Richard alias Munna, Guruprasad Shetty, Santosh Poojary, Vishwanath Shetty, and Zakir Hussain — and charged them with the murder.
However, the court acquitted the accused saying the prosecution failed to prove the allegations mounted against them. There was a lack of supporting evidence to pin the blame on the 5 accused, the court noted.
Senior advocate Shantaram Shetty argued on behalf of the accused.
