Udupi: A portion of the service road in the underpass construction area at Santhekatte here caved in on Monday, July 10, causing partial damage to the retaining wall.

This incident has raised concerns among residents and retail shop owners who fear the potential collapse of the entire service road and national highway.

The mudslip has also caused a perilous situation for the building in the vicinity. Many are left without access roads since the collapse. Residents are requesting the construction of a new road to ensure their mobility since their previous route has been disrupted by the collapse.

The residents blamed the NHAI and the contractor for their misery. They alleged that the construction work was moving at a snail’s pace despite assurance that the construction will be completed swiftly.

Expressing their frustration, some residents have threatened to block the road and organize protests if the authorities fail to take action.
