Katapadi: Udupi Deputy Commissioner Kurma Rao M, along with officials of the horticulture and revenue department, inspected the damage to the GI accredited Mattu Gulla crop due to the unseasonal heavy rains that lashed the district.

During the inspections, villagers requested the district collector to build a barrier to the Mattu stream as a safety precaution for stopping the spillage of excess water onto the fields.
Kote gram panchayat president Kishore Kumar Ambadi, Udupi gram panchayat’s former president Sarasu D. Bangera, officials of the Udupi administration, members of Mattu Gulla Growers’ Association and others were present.
