Udupi: District deputy commissioner (DC) G Jagadeesha personally went around places for inspecting and enforcing the statewide lockdown.
The DC along with the superintendent of police N Vishnuvardhan visited many shops and detailed instruction to them if any of them were found violating the government order.
At one such incident, the DC ordered the arrest of a manager in the Big Bazar outlet for keeping on the air conditioning in the store against the order issued by the state.
Later, the DC visited Malpe port and on seeing regular business being carried out there ordered immediate termination of all activities and clearing the port.
The fishermen requested for a day’s time to clear the fishes with them and aid the return of those fishermen already at sea.
The DC allowed for the returning of the boats and ordered that no more boats can venture out to the sea.
