Udupi: Students have not been supplied uniforms under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan even after a month has passed since offline classes have started in the district.
Every year, the Department of Education provides a set of uniforms to students of the government and private-aided schools under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.
The students are seen going to school in their year-old uniforms or wearing plain clothes due to the delay in distributing the school uniforms. Many parents urged the government to expedite the process so that children can go to school in new uniforms at least for the remainder of the school year.
Dakshina Kannada has 3,22,664 students studying from Class 1 to Class 10. Out of these 1.2 lakh are eligible for the free uniforms given by the government. In the Udupi district, there are a total of 1,60,182 students out of which around 80,000 are given school uniforms by the government.
Meanwhile, officials of the education department said that the uniforms will be disbursed soon. The tender process for the uniform has been completed at the state level. These will be supplied to all four divisions of the Department of Education simultaneously, an official said.
