Udupi: Emotionally disturbed sr citizen rescued after suicide attempt

Udupi: A mentally deranged elderly woman was rescued after she attempted suicide by jumping into a rivulet at Uppur here on Wednesday, September 2.

A social worker, Vishnu Shetty, rescued the elderly woman identified as Somu Marakala (70).

Marakala is a widow and has no children. Lonely and depressed she had decided to end her life.

After rescuing Marakala, Shetty called the senior citizens’ helpline 1090 for help but they were unable to trace any relatives of Markala.

Authorities have now made an appeal to the general public to help Markala, for which they can call the senior citizens’ helpline or the women’s’ helpline 0820-2525599.
