Udupi: Extra vigilance at checkposts after spike in COVID-19 cases in Bhatkal

Udupi: After 12 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported from Bhatkal, the checkpost at the district border near Shiroor has seen additional police personnel deployed to enhance supervision of the traffic flowing into the district.

Twenty police personnel from Byndoor are on duty at the checkpost. Only those who have a one-time pass and those going to Manipal Hospital for medical treatment are allowed to enter the district.

A total of 57 samples were collected in the district on Friday, May 8 of which 45 are of those who had visited COVID-19 hotspots. The samples include five people with severe respiratory problems and seven with flu. All 25 sample tests that were received on Friday, May 8 were negative.

District Health Officer Dr Sudheerchandra Sood stated that on Thursday, May 9, 900 people arrived in the district; nearly 4,000 people have arrived in the past four days. All of them have been subjected to quarantine, said.
