Katapady: The flood-like situation in the Katapady area of Udupi has brought about unprecedented plight for its residents. In a harsh example of how normal life has been crippled, a dead body was carried on shoulders through waterlogged fields and roads by the bereaved family on Friday at Mattu in Kaup taluk.

Laxman Anchan, a local said that Baby Poojary, wife of Ramappa Kunder of Bomman Thota in Mattu-Devarakudru had passed away. However, the ambulance could not reach the home as the road leading to the house had been flooded due to the incessant rain over the last few days.

The family was left with no choice but to wade through knee-deep waters to hold a funeral for the departed woman.

Relatives of Baby Poojary carried the body on their shoulders for about half a kilometer to reach the ambulance. The funeral was later held at Public Crematorium at Kote Gram Panchayat.
