Udupi gears up for Sri Sugunendra Theertha’s 4th Paryaya Mahotsava

Temple town Udupi is abuzz with excitement as the city prepares for the fourth Paryaya Mahotsava of Sri Sugunendratheertha of Sri Puthige Matha. The festivities will mark the beginning of the 252nd Paryaya period of Lord Krishna Matha, with a grand procession a
nd durbar scheduled for January 18.
The city, adorned with saffron flags and vibrant decorations, is illuminated with electric lights, creating a festive atmosphere. From Dandatheertha Matha to Udupi, the National Highway sparkles with lights, welcoming devotees and visitors alike.
Sri Sugunendratheertha Sripada of Sri Puthige Math, who completed his pilgrimage to the East, entered the city on January 8 in a grand Pura Pravesha ceremony. Rathabeedi, Sri Krishna Matha, and Sri Puthige Matha are already adorned with colors, setting the stage for the grand celebration.
A highlight of the event is the glorious procession led by Swamiji, attracting thousands along the route. Tiger costumes, folk art troupes, bhajan troupes, and various tableaus, including Parasurama and Ayodhya Ram Mandir, promise to enhance the spectacle.
Thursday afternoon will see a feast arranged for one lakh devotees, featuring a scrumptious menu of local delicacies. Notably, around 300 foreign dignitaries are expected to attend the event, adding an international flair to the festivities.
For the first time, the grand Paryaya procession will begin from Kinnimulki Swagatha Gopura (welcome arch) instead of Jodukatt. Puttige Sripada will lead the procession near Kinnimulki Swagatha Gopura, symbolizing the beginning of the celebrations.
The festivities will continue with various cultural programs until January 24, adding to the excitement of the festival. As Udupi gears up for this special occasion, the city anticipates a memorable celebration of Lord Krishna’s alternate period.
