In response to the recent incident involving a camera allegedly placed in a private college toilet, Udupi SP Akshay Hake has appealed to the public to not believe in fake news on social media.

During a press conference held earlier today, the SP clarified, “We have not obtained any video footage pertaining to the incident, and there is no evidence of it circulating on social media. We have diligently monitored various platforms and have not come across any material. It has come to our attention that certain individuals have attempted to manipulate unrelated videos by editing audio to falsely portray them as the Udupi incident. We want to assure the public that such misinformation is causing confusion.”

“We have not received any complaints regarding the incident, nor have we found any substantial evidence on social media to warrant initiating a case. Our investigations have included thorough checks of mobile devices, all of which have yielded no relevant content,” added Hake.

Addressing a particular tweet related to the incident, the SP stated, “The person behind the tweet should have verified the authenticity of the incident before sharing it. We request individuals to provide information to the police rather than instigating trouble.”

The police department has issued an  appeal to the public, urging them to exercise caution while posting or sharing information on social media platforms.

“We understand the concerns surrounding this incident, but we urge everyone not to indulge in spreading unfounded rumors that can create unnecessary panic or confusion. If anyone comes across credible information, kindly inform us so that we can take appropriate actions within the bounds of the law,” he added.
