Udupi: Students of Government Women’s PU College in Udupi have accused the principal of not allowing them to enter the premises wearing ‘Hijab’.
While Campus Front of India and SDPI has condemned the incident and urged the authorities to let the student enter the classroom, college principal Rudre Gowda defended the move saying the hijab ban has been implemented to ensure uniformity in classrooms.
MLA Raghupati Bhat held a meeting with the student leaders of Islamic organizations Bhat on Saturday, January 1.
He clarified that the students were allowed to wear Hijab in the college campus but not inside the classroom. If allowed, then other students too might come up with several demands.
However, the organization claimed that other government colleges and private colleges allowed wearing Hijab even inside the class.
SDPI has also warned of severe protests if the issue is not resolved soon.
