Udupi: The Second Additional District and Sessions Court in Udupi has adjourned the hearing of arguments in the Nejar quadruple murder case to January 31. The adjournment was made following an objection raised by the special public prosecutor against the accused’s plea to record the audio and video of the evidence proceedings.

The accused, Praveen Chougule, currently lodged in Bengaluru prison, was produced before the court via video conference. Noor Mohammed, a representative of the victim’s family, was also present during the proceedings.

The accused had filed a plea requesting audio and video recordings of the evidence proceedings. However, special public prosecutor Shivaprasad Alva K. raised objections, stating that such a move was unwarranted.

The defense counsel sought time until February 10 to prepare arguments, which the special public prosecutor opposed, arguing that the trial was being unnecessarily delayed. The prosecutor highlighted that the head of the victim’s family had arrived from abroad specifically for the case, urging the court to avoid further postponement.

Judge Samiulla scheduled January 31 as the deadline for the defense to present its arguments and issued an order accordingly.
