Udupi: A youth reportedly barged into a house near Manchi near Alevoor on Thursday and murderously assaulted Krishna Naik (54), the husband of former municipal council president Shanta Naik.

The accused was later identified as Arjun, a neighbor of the victim who has been taken into custody by Manipal Police.

Both Krishna Naik and Arjun suffered injuries during the scuffle, and are receiving treatment at a private hospital in Manipal.

It is alleged that Arjun suddenly barged into the house of the victim and hit him with an iron rod and escaped from the spot. The exact reason for the assault is not yet known.

Meanwhile, Manipal police visited the crime scene and carried out investigations. There was a large pool of blood outside the entrance of the victim’s house.

It is learned that Krishna Naik had moved into his newly built house about a year ago. The accused, Arjun, who is a graduate and a neighbor of the victim, was working abroad and had arrived in town recently.
