Udupi: The stalled construction work on the Ambagilu-Perampalli-Manipal ring road has now become a problem for the riders.
Some pockets of the road have perfect tarred road, that suddenly changes to a slough-potholed road. Unaware of the danger, drivers ride vehicles at high speeds and end up in accidents. On Monday, a car crashed into an electric pole at the diversion area near Trinity. The incident took place when the vehicle tried to take a sudden high-speed turn on a steep curve on the road.
No warnings or signboards:
The absence of clear signage and warnings is further complicating the situation created by the incomplete patches on roads.
Two-wheeler riders are experiencing a harrowing time as potholes and scattered stones at places where work is left incomplete. With rains, the water accumulates in the pits, and potholes and road is not clearly visible, motorists complain.
Assistant executive engineer of the public works department’s Udupi subdivision, Jagadish Bhat, assured that action will soon be taken to complete road works and to repair the potholes. Signs indicating speed limits will be installed once the road work is complete. In the meantime, warning signs will be installed, he said.
