Udupi: In the wake of two back-to-back killings of young men in neighboring Dakshina Kannada, the police department has advised leaders of various organizations in Udupi to be alert, sources said.
The coastal districts have been rocked by the two barbaric killings. BJP Yuva Morcha member Praveen Nettary of Bellare had been killed on Tuesday evening, shocking the coastal districts. It had also evoked widespread condemnation. Barely two days after this incident, another youth was barbarically hacked to death in full public view in Surathkal on Thursday evening.
As the situation on the coast remains sensitive, the leaders of organizations, including the Sangh Parivar, have been advised to exercise caution, sources added.
In the meanwhile, Udupi Superintendent of Police N Vishuvardhan said that the security has been tightened in the district. The beat system has been tightened in the sensitive areas, and check posts have been set up for monitoring the situation, he added.
