Udupi: Karnataka Lokayukta Justice P Vishwanath Shetty who was on a visit to the district, inspected workings of public facilities, vaccination drive and Covid protocols on Tuesday. Hie reviewed the situation at the city primary health centre, government board high school and a few other residential institutions under the state government.
Speaking to media persons, the Lokayukta said that the visit was largely focused on the inspection of measures taken to maximize the reach of the covid vaccination drive in the district. As schools and colleges have reopened, Justice Shetty said that his office has ordered the Lokayukta police along with the district administration to check and enforce the prescribed Covid norms in the schools and colleges. “Even if a single student suffers due to any inconvenience, it might lead to a big impact on the education of the children,” he said.
The administrative ombudsman informed that he did not find any major lapses during the inspection in Udupi. “I have given suggestions on certain administrative improvements in a few areas. I have discussed the improvements needed with the deputy commissioner and Zilla Panchayat CEO,” he said.
The Lokayukta also urged everyone to be vaccinated against Covid so that the disease can be kept at bay. “Vaccination should be taken by all the individuals. Doctors have also assured that there are no side effects from taking the vaccines. In fact, it is learnt that vaccination reduces the fatality and it protects us from major side effects of Covid,” he added.
