Parkala: Occupants of two tourist cars had a miraculous escape when an out-of-control truck carrying sacks of rice overturned on them near Kelaparkala.

The lorry was on its way to Hebri from Udupi when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The rice sacks lay scattered on the road after the accident causing traffic snarls. One of the tourist cars suffered extensive damage.

The accident has invited the ire of the locals about the lack of facilities. Locals attributed the accident to the pitiable condition of the road. As a new road is being constructed there, the vehicles need to take the mud road as an alternative for the past 15 days. Locals also pointed to the lack of proper road signage and protective barricades and inadequate lighting arrangements.
