Udupi: The vibrant Makar Sankranti celebrations at the Sri Krishna Matha concluded gracefully on Tuesday under the leadership of the Paryaya Sri Puthige Matha’s Sri Sugunendra Teertha Swamiji. The grandeur of the Brahmaratha and three chariot festivals shone bright amidst colorful fireworks, accompanied by light showers.
The festivities began with the Teppotsava at the Madhwasarovara, followed by the grand chariot procession. Despite the rain, devotees thronged the venue to witness the Brahmaratha, Garuda Ratha, and Small Ratha, carrying the deities of Sri Krishna Mukhyaprana, Ananteshwara, and Chandramoulishwara. Devotees, armed with umbrellas, revered the deities with unwavering devotion.
The event also featured vibrant lighting, devotional songs, and an enthralling fireworks display. During the day, a grand Anna Santarpane (community feast) was held, while a special feast, Churnotsava Anna Santarpane, was conducted on Tuesday night.
Churnotsava on Wednesday
The festivities will conclude on Wednesday with Churnotsava and Avabrutha Snana rituals, drawing the curtain on the grand celebrations.
Special Guest of Honour
John Mullahy, a Member of Parliament from Victoria, Australia, attended as a special guest. Despite the rain, he actively participated in the rituals and enjoyed the traditional feast at the Matha. His gesture of skipping an umbrella to immerse himself in the experience was noted by many.
Temples Witness Devotee Rush
Temples across the undivided Dakshina Kannada district, including Dharmasthala Sri Manjunatha Temple, Kukke Sri Subrahmanya Temple, and Udupi Sri Krishna Matha, saw thousands of devotees offering prayers and participating in special rituals. The day being a public holiday added to the festive crowds.
