Udyavara: A person was issued death threats and his scooter was damaged for allegedly participating in a press conference condemning the illegal sand extraction at the Mathadakudru area of Udyavara.

The victim, identified as Bhaskar Karkera, filed a police complaint about the attack.

Bhaskar, a resident of Vibhudeshanagar, had participated in the press conference called by Adamaru pontiff Sri Ishapriya Theertha Swamiji on March 18 to raise the issue of illegal sand mining in the Udyavara area.

The complainant said that he was waylaid by 3 unidentified persons when he was returning home after parking his scooter at a plot owned by the Sode Matha off National Highway 66. They issued death threats and pushed his scooter over.  He managed to escape from the spot and reach home safely.

However, the next morning, Karkera discovered that his scooter had been crushed and damaged, resulting in a loss of Rs. 10,000.

Kaup police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
