Udupi: Man sentenced to 10 years in jail for raping 78-year-old woman

Udupi: The Second Additional District and Sessions Court on Thursday sentenced a man to 10 years in jail for raping a 78-year-old woman and stealing her money in Udupi.

The accused identified as Irfan, a native of Shivmogga raped an elderly woman who made a living by selling used items in Tenkapet on June 5, 2017. He also stole Rs 30,000 from her.

After a prolonged trial, Irfan was given a sentence of 10 years in prison, a Rs 50,000 fine for rape and a simple term of six months in jail and a Rs 5,000 fine for robbery.
