Udupi: Man sentenced to 20 years imprisonment in POCSO case

Udupi: A man was handed a 20-year prison term in a POCSO case here.
Sahil (23) was convicted of sexually assaulting a minor girl about 2 years ago by the POCSO fast-track special court in Udupi.
The incident occurred in July 2021 in Byndoor. The accused worked at a place nearby where the victim’s father ran a hotel.
When the girl had been to her native place in Byndoor, where Sahil took her to an uninhabited place and sexually assaulted her on the pretext of marrying her. He developed physical relations with the minor girl on several other occasions.
The girl’s mother later registered a complaint at the Byndoor police station in this regard. The then Police Inspector Santosh A. Kaykini filed a charge sheet against the accused.
After considering the evidence, Judge Srinivasa Suvarna convicted the accused and sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 22,500. The court also directed the state government to provide a compensation of Rs 1.50 lakhs to the victim.
Special Public Prosecutor of Udupi POCSO Court Y.T. Raghavendra argued on behalf of the prosecution.
