Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje has urged swift action on the extension project of National Highway 169A from Karavali Bypass to Malpe. In a meeting held at the DC office hall, attended by local representatives, officials, and residents, the Minister emphasized the need for immediate initiation of the project within a three-day timeline.

Expressing concern over the delay in the ‘Malpe – Karavali’ bypass work, Minister Karandlaje warned about potential setbacks for the sanctioned highway projects if such delays persist. The focus was particularly on expediting the processes at Ambalapady, Katapady junction, and completing the pending work at Santhekatte.

Regarding the progress, AC and Land Acquisition Officer Rashmi highlighted the pending approval process for the JMC maps. She assured that survey work would commence soon, advocating for the timely distribution of compensation-related notices.

Project Director Abdul Javid Azmi from NHAI Mangalore Division explained the impediments faced during the Santhekatte work due to rocky terrain, emphasizing ongoing efforts to clear obstacles and progress with the construction.

MLAs Yashpal Suvarna, Gurme Suresh Shetty, along with DC Dr K Vidya Kumari and SP Dr K Arun, were among the attendees at this crucial meeting.

The discussion also addressed concerns raised by locals and fishermen leaders regarding the road’s width. While initial plans proposed a 15-meter wide road, recent mapping indicated a 12-meter width, leading to demands for a broader road akin Parkala-Hebri route. Minister Shobha clarified that the proposed plan adheres to the National Highway guidelines, stipulating a 12-meter width in urban areas and 15-meter in rural settings.
