Udupi: More than 200 electricity poles damaged

Udupi: The strong winds and rain since the two days in Udupi district has damaged more 200 electricity poles and 10 transformers.
More than 150 electricity poles have been uprooted in Udupi-Karkala taluks which come within the limits of Udupi sub-division. Around 35 poles have been damaged in Kundapur sub-division.
Widespread damage in Manipal, Perdur
Manipal, Parkala, Perdur and Ambalapady areas have sustained more damage. On Wednesday night, 7 consecutive electricity poles ended up fallen on the ground near MIT. 3 poles along Manipal highway and poles at Perdue, Hiriyadka, Kudri area were uprooted leading to power shutdown.
The electricity poles at Alevuru, Marpalli, Manipura, Arbi, Saralebettu and Parkala too have suffered damage. 2 poles have been damaged in Udupi city limits, 6 transformers have sustained damage in Kundapur while one transformer as fallen to the ground here. A transformer in Parkala was damaged which resulted in electrical appliances and wiring at homes here ending up burnt. On Thursday afternoon, an uprooted tree at Perdur market damaged three houses. A transformer at Udupi industrial area exploded after being struck by lightning.
