Udupi: Near-death experience for many as drunken driver goes on rampage

Udupi: In a shocking incident, a tempo driver who was reportedly driving drunk, went on a rampage damaging two motorbikes and endangering several pedestrians’ lives at Beedinagudde here o Thursday night.

The accused driver, identified as Dinesh of Kukkikatte was driving the tempo from Beedinagudde toward Diana. Near the circle, he reportedly hit a motorbike. This led to a verbal argument between the two. During the altercation, the biker reportedly slapped Dinesh.

Angry at this, Dinesh reversed the tempo and tried to mow down the bike. The biker and the pillion rider jumped off the bike to save themselves. Tempo also hit another motorbike.

Several pedestrians, who were nearby, ran away to save themselves from the rampaging vehicle.

Udupi town police rushed to the spot and took Dinesh into custody.
