Udupi: Notorious thief arrested in burglary case

Udupi: A notorious thief was arrested in connection with a jewellery theft case, police said on Tuesday.
The accused, Tousif Ahmed (34), a resident of Mallaru was held from Mallaru, police added.
Police said that the accused had broken into a house at Badagabettu on June 30 and had decamped with gold jewellery, and cash kept in the locker of the bedroom. The value of the stolen jewellery and cash was estimated to be Rs 8.46 lakhs. A case was registered at the Udupi City police station in this regard.
A team led by Udupi City Police Inspector Manjappa D R was formed to nab the accused and trace the stolen items.
Gold jewellery weighing 155 grams valued at Rs 9,00,500 has been seized from the accused, police said.
The accused has been implicated in house thefts at various places including Bantwal, Panambur and Bajpe, they added.
