Udupi: Udupi traffic police launched an operation on Monday to remove loud horns from city buses and imposed fines, following the end of the deadline set earlier.

On June 3, a meeting was held at the Udupi Traffic Police Station with city and service bus owners. They were instructed to remove the loud horns from Udupi city and service buses by June 15.

As the deadline passed, the operation was carried out under the leadership of SI Sudarshan Doddamani at the Udupi City Bus Stand.

Loud horns were removed from seven buses. A total fine of Rs. 3500 was imposed, with each bus being fined Rs. 500. The law permits a fine of Rs. 1000 for the second offense.

Most city buses have already removed the loud horns following the given deadline. Therefore, this operation will continue, and actions will be taken against service buses next, informed SI Sudarshan.
