Udupi: The Udupi district administration has rolled out tenders for road repairs and aims to make the district pot-hole free by December.
Public has complained of the deteriorating condition of roads at various places in the district with social activists even coming out with novel ideas to grab the attention of civic officials to the rising number of potholes here.
Udayavani has also been publishing a series of reports on the condition of the roads over the last few months. The district administration had assured to undertake repair works and find permanent solutions for the potholes once the rainy season ends.
However, though the rains have subsided in the district no permanent measures have been taken to resolve the pothole menace and it is being filled with fly ash, locals alleged.
They further cited that over 70 percent of the roads have deteriorated following the heavy rainfall this year. The number of potholes as well as their size has been increasing by the day. In most places, two-wheeler riders lose control of their vehicle while avoiding the potholes and thus meet with accidents.
Dr. Udaya Shetty, Municipal Commissioner, Udupi Municipal Council informed that already tenders have been floated for the repair works and sums have been sanctioned the patchwork, and asphalting of ward roads. He said that the work will be systematically completed by December.
