Udupi: In the elections held for the posts of President and Vice President of Udupi Municipal Council, Gundibail Ward member Prabhakara Poojary was elected as the President, and Volakadu Ward member Rajani Hebbar was elected as the Vice President. Both were elected unopposed.
The election process was overseen by Kundapura Sub-Division Assistant Commissioner Maheshchandra.
In the first term, Sumitra Nayak had served as the President, and Lakshmi Manjunath had served as the Vice President for a period of two years and six months. Due to issues related to reservation, there was a delay of one year and three months before the new reservations were announced.
The elections were held after the announcement of reservations, with the President’s post being reserved for the General category and the Vice President’s post for General Women. The Udupi Municipal Council consists of 35 wards, with the BJP holding a majority with 32 members. Following the party’s core committee decision, Prabhakar Poojary has been elected as the 10th President of the Udupi Municipal Council, and Rajani Hebbar as the Vice President.
