Udupi: Rains to continue for 2 more days; DC orders evacuation

Udupi: In the wake of the forecasts of rains continuing for two more days, Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha has ordered the immediate evacuation of people residing near river banks and on islands.
In the last 24 hours, 45 cm of rain flooded most parts of the district.
More than 2,500 people were evacuated by National Disaster Response Force, Coastal Security Police and local organisations from inundated areas to safer locations.
Jagadeesha stated that already relief centres have been opened in the district where residents from near river banks have been given shelter and food provided by the district administration.
