Manipal: Amid rising cases of ATM skimming in coastal district, a case of suspected SIM card hacking has been reported in Udupi district.

Yogesh Shetty, a resident of Manipal has filed a police complaint at Manipal station after he received a message that said his sim has been ported to Jharkhand, Bihar.

Yogesh Shetty had been using the BSNL sim for nearly 15 years now. However the sim stopped functioning on February 27, following BSNL customer care officers suggested that he buy a new sim.

Four days after receiving the new sim Yogesh Shetty received a message stating that his sim has been ported in Jharkhand, Bihar. According to the message his sim was ported to Airtel from BSNL, however, he had never requested to port his sim.

Alerted by this, Yogesh immediately went to the bank for deactivating the number linked to his bank accounts. He also filed a complaint in this regard.
An investigation is underway.
