Udupi: Statewide lockdown effectively observed

Udupi: After chief minister B S Yediyurappa declared lockdown in the entire state from Tuesday, March 24, the citizenry of the district have been obediently adhering to it.

Police personnel have set up checkpoints and patrols in Udupi town and are allowing only those vehicles carrying essential commodities.

There was a rush in provision stores, groceries and meat shops early in the day as only these establishments have been allowed to stay open.

All bus operators have suspended operations.

District deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha has urged residents in a video message to stay indoors and adhere to the lockdown seriously advising to go out if absolutely necessary or to buy provisions.

District administration had already imposed Section 144 in the district before the enforcement of the statewide lockdown.
